What is online counselling?

Online counselling, also known as e-counselling or cyber counselling, is a method of providing mental health support and therapy through digital means. It allows individuals to communicate with a trained mental health professional via the Internet, utilizing platforms such as video conferencing, chat, or email.

Windows, Android, Apple and cross-platform apps such as WhatsApp, FaceTime, Messenger, FaceTime, iMessage, Google Meet, Google Chat, Skype, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Viber, Telegram and many other apps can be used for conducting online mental health, counselling and therapy sessions. Some apps can also be used to contact me for the first time.

The advantages of Online Therapy

Technology has played its part very well to change the rules of the game in almost every aspect of life. Mental health, counselling and therapy have been no exception. Online counselling has seen a surge in demand and rightly so. Without leaving the comfort of your place, you can talk and sort out your mental issues.

Online methods make mental health, counselling and therapy services accessible to groups and categories of people who would have been unable to otherwise access them for whatever reason. Researchers have found online counselling and therapy sessions to be as effective as the traditional ones.

Online counselling offers flexibility and accessibility, making it easier for individuals to seek help without geographical constraints. It’s an ideal option for those who may find traditional in-person therapy challenging due to location, transportation, or scheduling difficulties.

If you are shy and reserved...

For people who are generally shy and reserve natured, online counselling sessions have more chances of better performance. It’s easier to talk if you are confident and relaxed in your familiar place rather than in a clinical setting which might create hindrance in speaking one’s heart out about confidential matters.

If you have long work hours or hectic schedules...

For people who have long work hours or very hectic schedules, online counselling proves to be an ideal solution. Such people, would find it very hard if not impossible to manage time for counselling and putting off counselling sessions can aggravate the mental problems to a detrimental degree. Online counselling can be very helpful in such circumstances.

If leaving home is a problem for whatever reason...

Online counselling sessions are extremely convenient for those who for whatever reason find  it a challenge to leave home and for disabled people for whom commuting to and from the clinics can be a hassle. It can also be a good idea for young people who find it difficult to travel alone or may feel more comfortable in their familiar environment.
